I got in contact with Cookie Place through my Goodwill counselor. She thought this would be a good opportunity for me knowing that I like to cook. It’s been tough to get a job and she knew this was something that I wanted to do.
I have been given a good opportunity to learn more while I am here about my cooking skills, and it has helped me see what I am capable of doing - which I would have never been able to do before.
I just start cooking because it relaxes me it keeps me going and it keeps me focused on what I am doing. It just helps me unwind if I get up tight and it releases that tension for me. People are happy with the way I cook and when I see that they are happy it just makes it that much more enjoyable. People here, we are all pretty much in the same boat, people with disabilities. I like working with the employees and it enables me to see their difficulties and not just my own. So that is a benefit to me … to be grateful for what I have and not what I don’t have. It gives me a reason to get up every day to get to Cookie Place on time to show people that I have responsibilities. |
