My ORS (Office of Rehabilitative Services) counselor, from Services for the Blind, suggested that because I like to cook and bake that I enroll in the 10-week Food Service Training Program leading to Serv-Safe certification. So I took the class and did very well on the test and got my certification.

One day I made soup, I had fun and we got to serve it at lunch in the café and it sold well. Katrina, the Food Service Training Instructor, said that there were some openings and actually she had recommended me to Ray and he offered me the position and I took it. Its benefited me in that it has give me some self confidence, I don’t see very well and I have always worried that I am not going to be able to do a task. I have been able to do anything that anyone has asked me to do so far. My vision hasn’t been a problem here and I have become more self confident. Everybody is very supportive. It’s good to be able to get up every day and have a purpose.
